About My practice

Welcome! I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#12769) with over a decade of experience working with children, adolescents and families in a number of different ways. Born and raised in Vancouver, I currently work as a counsellor in the public school system and help people from all ages and walks of life. I have a passion for childhood mental health and working with those who have special needs and abilities, including autism, ADHD, and behavioural challenges. I have spent years volunteering within the special needs community and consider myself an advocate for those who often feel misunderstood. As a former special education teacher, I also understand the complex needs of families within the context of a bigger system and how stressful it can be when your child is labelled as "different." I provide non-judgmental support for parents and caregivers who are struggling through the stress of medical diagnoses, family planning, and connecting to community resources. My belief is that counselling should be available and accessible for all developmental and intellectual abilities, and I easily adapt my services to match specific needs.

The counselling process for most children and adolescents typically involves weaving in cognitive therapy, Mindfulness, expressive play and art, and emotional regulation tools. Although these are wonderfully effective therapeutic techniques, often children and teens who are experiencing challenges, or practicing high-risk behaviour, are in need of reestablishing safe attachment connections. Secure attachment is the foundation of every positive relationship and I truly believe it is what holds healthy families together. I pride myself on being able to help caregivers reattach with their children in ways that facilitate more communication, understanding, and closeness.

I also work with many young and older adults in their own individual counselling. The most common story I hear is that people feel "stuck" in some way, whether it be in a relationship, a job, or in a cycle of harmful behaviours. My goal is to provide a safe environment for clients to work their thoughts and feelings and take steps towards happiness, ultimately getting them "unstuck." I often help people who are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and trauma. My certification in Trauma Focused Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy has allowed clients to finally free themselves of feeling trapped within a traumatic past. I am honoured to be able to witness the stories that people tell and be a person that can offer unconditional support and trust.
